In the United Kingdom, the Scottish Qualifications Authority is the national awarding body which creates qualifications. BISA and SQA have been working in close partnership for the past three years to develop a new certificate which employers, trainers and colleges can make use of to train their staff to a high level of competence within the spa industry.

The presentation will provide an overview of what is in the qualification, the various topics which will be covered and what individual’s will have to know in order to pass the assessments. Also covered will be the requirements of those who wish to deliver the qualification and how your business can make use of this to train your staff in spa therapy.

Susan B Wilson

Susan started her career in hairdressing in 1964 as an apprentice and after achieving an Advanced Certificate in Hairdressing in 1971 became a lecturer in hairdressing at a Further Education College. She was Head of Department when in September 2002 she decided to take early retirement.

She now works as a Development Officer with the Scottish Qualifications Authority in Glasgow, working mainly on qualifications in hairdressing, beauty therapy, complementary therapies and spa therapies. She works with a number of different types of qualifications including Higher National Certificates and Diplomas, Scottish Vocational Qualifications, Professional Development Awards, National Progression Awards and Skills for Work (14 – 16 years) which is delivered in partnership with secondary schools, further education colleges or private training providers and industry.
